Hello and welcome to Indigo Holistica. I believe in the unfolding wisdom of our bodies. Every opportunity to work with a new client is an opportunity to learn something new about the human body and spirit. It is truly my pleasure to work with you.

My interest in natural health and living began years ago with a desire to live in balance and harmony within myself and with the land.  I discovered the deep satisfaction in that connection as I  started to explore health through different traditions including nutrition, herbalism, acupuncture, yoga, tai chi, talk therapy, massage therapy and homeopathy. During my childbearing years, I became fascinated with the processes of pregnancy, birth, and babies, with each of my own birth experiences inspiring my path toward midwifery. As a mother, I endeavored to live a more holistic lifestyle during these early years, treating myself and my children and working with local health-conscious businesses, including: Washington Homeopathics in Berkeley Springs WV, The Community Garden Market in Berkeley Springs WV, Potomac Whole Foods in Clear Spring MD, The Common Market in Frederick MD, Wildflowers Vegetarian Cafe in Frederick MD, Earhardt Orgainc Farm in Knoxville MD; where I operated and managed my own Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program from 2003 to 2006.

In 2003 I completed a formal accredited 550 hour program in Massage and Bodywork at Synergy Healing Arts Center & Massage School,  in Blue Ridge Summit, PA. There I studied human anatomy and physiology and the foundation of massage and touch therapies, including specialized techniques: Prenatal Massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, and Chakra/Energy Balancing. I earned my certification through the highest level of accredidation standard set with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), which is maintained through an upkeep of continuing education credits. I am licensed by the West Virginia Massage Therapy Licensure Board and the Alaska Board of Massage Therapists. I have completed additional complementary courses through the Institute for Integrative Healthcare Studies that include:

  • Shiatsu Anma Therapy
  • Essential Oil Therapy for Mothers and Babies
  • Spiritual Ethics from the Dalai Lama
  • Cupping Technique
  • Reflexology
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Infant Massage
  • Oncology Massage
  • Psychology of the Body

In 2006 I entered into a formal midwifery apprenticeship following the guidelines set forth by North American Registry of Midwives (NARM), Portfolio Evaluation Process (PEP), and completed Labor Assistant/Birth Doula Training with the Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators (ALACE). The following years I worked both as a doula in hospital settings and birth centers, and as an assistant with two independent midwives, Karen Carr and Liz O’shea, where I attended home births in the surrounding tri-state area. Practicing as a traditional midwife, I started serving my own clients in 2009. I completed my formal apprenticeship in 2011, by which time I participated in approximately 100 births, 30 of which I served  as the primary midwife under supervision, and 15 working as an independent midwife. Fulfilling all NARM requirements, I received my Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credential in 2012. This certification is maintained through continuing education requirements, including ongoing certification in neonatal resuscitation (NNR) and CPR. I am a member of the Midwives Alliance of West Virginia (MAWV) and am licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine. I completed Emergency Medicical Technician training and certification in 2014.

The tradition of living a holistic lifestyle continues as we further our faith in the process of life unfolding; enjoying walks across the land, through the woods and along the creek, noticing the destruction or renewal that a flood can bring, anticipating the morning songbirds with the sunrise, the call of owls in the evening, the cicada rattle of summer, and the deep silence of winter. We gather our harvests and return what is left to the earth; surrendering to deer, rabbit, fox, and hawk, accepting that spring blossom and bounty become the brilliant beauty of autumn and winter decay.

We strive to recognize the natural rhythms and cycles of which we are a part, respecting every season and the lesson it brings. We understand that our growth and potential are found through every life experience, with the most difficult as essential to integrate toward fulfilling and celebrating our complete selves.

As a steward I continue to seek understanding and balance within my own life and, with gratitude, I offer myself in service to you.
